So I’m still figuring this one out myself, and today landed on a page full of some really great suggestions. I’ve heard the usual – bar-tending, teaching English, etc, but those things never really appealed to me, as I didn’t want to stay in one place and be tied to a job for very long. For some people, it might work. I’m actually more interested in mobile ways of earning, or entertainment related ways of earning. Which is why I’m considering returning to L.A. earlier than planned so that I can go back to doing some background work to save up for more adventures. Apparently there’s some great guarded secret to getting background work in Paris. But even when traveling, I’d need a way to earn a bit of money. So some of the suggestions here really started me thinking. I’m just listing a couple here with my thoughts on them, and more information can be found HERE.
Act in Films & Television Overseas – Specifically, in Mumbai and Kenya. Apparently, they just pluck foreigners off the street for Bollywood films. Oh my gosh! That’s it. I’m going to India this year. I had already planned to visit southern India but now this is really motivating me.
Fruit-Picking – My first job was actually picking strawberries, so this doesn’t sound bad. And you’ve got snacks. 🙂
Day-Trading – This is something I’ve been trying to learn about. It sounds pretty boring to me, but definitely something you can do from anywhere, and on your own time. But learning how….
Housesitting – It’s kind of like earning money. I’m a little nervous, as I can be a tad on the messy side, but it’s worth considering!
Tour Operators in the Caribbean – This is something that would probably require you to stay put for a bit, but if it’s a tropical location… awesome! Definitely looking into this one… for after my trip to India.
Photography – I’ve already thought about this one and need to get out there and photograph things. I love taking photos. I wasn’t much in the mood over the winter in Paris, but very sad that I was so busy the weekend that it snowed… would have been some great shots.
Work on a Yacht – Also awesome!
Busking – I’ve been working on my guitar and singing skills, and writing my own songs, so that I can do a little bit of this. Perhaps not on street corners, but set up little gigs as I travel…. would be fun!
Volunteer Work and Work Exchange – Definitely another something I’ve been contemplating and would really like to do. I love the idea of giving back while traveling.
I just picked out the ones that I found interesting, the ones you’ll be most likely to read about here on my blog. The whole list of 42 things to do to earn money while traveling can be found at Wandering Earl’s site. I’m new to his site but am excited to read more about his adventures. He’s been traveling since 1999! All these crazy travelers!
Now it’s time to think more about India and my plans for 2013… which are constantly changing.
Glad you enjoyed the post and I shall look forward to hearing how you put some of those suggestions to use during your travels! Acting in India’s Bollywood is one of the coolest things I’ve ever done and well worth a try 🙂
I’m so excited about it! My friend in India had told me if I came there I could be a Bollywood star. lol. I know they film there and it was definitely something I was going to look into, but now I’m seriously thinking about a longer trip and going up to Mumbai. I’d like to find a travel partner for this though. I’m a bit scared to go to India alone, honestly.
But yeah! I’m so glad to have read your post, thanks for sharing that! You might have just changed my life. lol
